Looking for a private label manufacturer to create your custom branded chemical resistant gloves?

Many may think procuring OEM disposable gloves do not require much thought. However, there are many types of disposable gloves, each meeting specific applications. You’ll need to understand the difference between various disposable glove types. Not all gloves are the same - different materials, strength levels and other features lend themselves to distinct purposes.

Choosing the right OEM disposable glove is not as simple as buying at the lowest price. Before buying your OEM gloves, make sure you are buying the right ones.

Disposable Gloves For Salon Specialists

Most people assume that beauty salon workers would not be faced with hazardous working conditions. But if you take a closer look, you will see that they actually work with some pretty hazardous chemicals. With that in mind, it only makes sense to want to be armed with superior disposable gloves, and to research which type would be better for hairstylists, makeup artists, and other salon workers.

The Best Gloves for Hair Salon Professionals are Nitrile-Based

Those who work on hair within a salon are typically exposed to more chemicals than those who perform different tasks within the same industry. Hair stylists work with their clientele’s hair in multiple ways – coloring, highlighting, perming, straightening, hair extensions, just to name a few. Each service requires its own set of chemicals to get the job done. Hence hair professionals need to keep their hands safe with a material that has a high rating for chemical resistance. So, what type of gloves should beauty salons use?

The clear answer is nitrile.

To make this point even more clear, we will go over a few of the tasks and chemicals that hairstylists use while on the job:

Coloring – Gloves are Necessary to Avoid Stained Hands & Chemical Exposure

Protective hand covering for hairstylists who dye hair is a must! If protection is not used, the salon specialists’ hands would be completely stained. Although stained hands would be especially bad, it’s not as concerning as having their skin exposed to the hazardous chemicals that are used to color the hair. Because of this, it’s crucial to use nitrile disposable gloves instead of latex. Why? Because latex does not stand up to chemicals the way nitrile does.

Although there are more, let’s take a look at just two chemicals found in hair dye solutions:

Ammonia: This chemical is used as a PH-adjuster in the coloring process. It opens the hair cuticle to enable the color to penetrate the hair shaft. The World Health Organization has labeled ammonia as toxic. Additionally, this is the same substance that is used in harsh commercial cleaning products. Low concentrations of ammonia can cause skin irritation and higher amounts can cause burns.

Phenylenediamine (PPD): This is known as the main ingredient and the most common cause of skin irritation in hair dye ingredients. This chemical has been deemed hazardous to the point where it was banned from being placed in products in Germany and Sweden. Additionally, PPD has been categorized as a contact allergen by the American Contact Dermatitis Society. This all adds up to the point that chemical resistant nitrile gloves should be worn by salon workers who color hair.

Highlighting – Harsh Substances Used Can Cause Chemical Burns

The main substance used to highlight, or bleach hair, is hydrogen peroxide. This might not sound so concerning since the general public is accustomed to using this product. However, it can be a skin irritant, and even cause burns when higher amounts are utilized. Waterproof and chemical penetration proof hand protection should be used by hairdressers when highlighting hair. Nitrile gloves are best for this type of salon work due to the fact that latex and vinyl are known to not provide the right amount of protection against chemicals.

Extensions – A Salon Service that Uses Carcinogenic Adhesives

Most don’t realize that hair extensions contain substances that salon workers should protect their hands against. The adhesives that are used to hold the extensions in place often contain 1,4-dioxane. This has been labeled as a probable carcinogen by the EPA. Additionally, some hair extension processes use high concentrations of a soluble latex antigen, which many individuals with latex allergies can be affected by.

Durable nitrile gloves are best for salon workers who deal in bonding glues such as this because of nitrile’s superior chemical resistance. Plus, adding hair extensions requires detailed weaving and careful placement where flexible, touch-sensitive material is needed.
