If you haven’t really thought about how you’ll deal with hotter heat waves and warmer average temperatures, now is a great time to start. It’s time to look at the dangers of heat waves and make sure your business is ready to face them.

Heat related illnesses can be life threatening. Here’s a few things that you can do to minimize the danger.

  • Schedule Frequent Breaks: Consider setting up a cooling tent if a naturally shaded area is not available
  • Provide Cold Water or Sports Drinks: Aim for 50° - 60° and remind workers to drink it
  • Set Up a Buddy System: Put a reliable person in charge of looking for signs of heat related illness
  • Adjust Work Schedules: Consider earlier start times, night or evening shifts, or split shifts.

With smart scheduling, hydration and cooling, your people can take care of business even when the temps are breaking records.
