The Dopplex Ability is an automated medical device designed to rapidly measure the Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI) and associated vascular parameters. ABI is used to assess peripheral arterial disease (PAD). The device leverages volume plethysmography rather than oscillometric or purely Doppler techniques to allow faster, more reliable measurements—even in cases with very low ankle pressures or arterial calcification. It is developed by Huntleigh Healthcare and intended for use in clinics, hospitals, wound care centres and home visits.
Clinical Use
-
Screening & monitoring of Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) especially in at-risk populations (e.g. diabetic patients, smokers, elderly) where manual Doppler-ABI is time consuming.
-
Wound care clinics, where determining arterial disease or risk is important in healing or deciding treatment.
-
Primary care / GP clinics, to triage or monitor vascular health.
-
Mobile / home visit settings, as portability enables outreach.
-
Reducing unnecessary referrals, improving efficiency and prioritising care.
The Dopplex Ability offers a strong solution for health settings needing to improve efficiency in vascular assessment and screening. It balances speed, accuracy, and usability well, addressing many of the drawbacks of older ABI methods. For clinics or health systems where PAD is a concern, this device can help support earlier diagnosis, streamline workflows, and reduce costs related to misdiagnosis or delays.
